Vacation season in the northern hemisphere is rapidly approaching and it is time to think about what would be a good vacation spot. A vacation in June, July or August may be even more appealing for someone on the southern half of the globe who is putting up with winter weather. For some travel ideas, here are the Top Five vacation spots as chosen by the U.S. News magazine travel section:

Number 1: London, England is known for its unique neighbourhoods and well-known landmarks. Top places to visit include the Tower of London and the British Museum.

Number 2: Barcelona, Spain is more than just futbol, with a spirited atmosphere combined with tremendous architecture. Top places to see include the Cathedral of Santa Eulalia, the Gothic Quarter and Las Ramblas – the main shopping street.

Number 3: Paris, France has the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame. What more do you need to see? Oh, and do not forget the French food and restaurants.

Number 4: Maui, Hawaii, United States. If beaches, surfing and swimming are more your thing, the island of Maui is a top 5 destination for the sun-worshipping side of your nature. The scenic Road to Hana lets you explore the lush, inland parts of the island with a leisurely drive.

Number 5: New York City, United States has it all ranging from American baseball, to world class museums, to Central Park. Top rated things to do include visiting Rockefeller Center and shopping in the SoHo district.

Which of the top 5 would be your Number 1? One way to pay for a vacation to one of these places would be to sell some old gold jewellery. With cash from your gold you can turn a dream trip into a reality.
